The Department of Cardiovascular Surgery was established in 2000 within the Faculty of Medicine of Bulent Ecevit University. Since its establishment, its aim has been to provide modern clinical and surgical skills as well as contemporary theoretical knowledge to physician and expert candidates. In addition to clinical trials, experimental studies are carried out with increasing frequency.

The first open heart surgery in the Western Black Sea region was performed on 30/5/2002 by performing coronary artery bypass surgery on a patient in emergency conditions in this clinic. Since then, adult cardiac surgery, vascular surgery and interventional vascular treatments have been performed. The cardiovascular surgery unit which consists of 2 operating rooms, a 5-bed intensive care unit and a service unit belonging to our department is actively working.
