The Department of Pediatric Surgery started to serve in the Faculty of Medicine at Bülent Ecevit University on 23rd October, 2000. Our object has been to provide physicians and pediatric surgeon candidates with contemporary theoretical knowledge as well as modern clinical and surgical skills since its establishment.
Pediatric surgery is a science that applies the diagnosis and treatment methods of surgical diseases related to congenital and/ or acquired respiratory, digestive and excretory systems belonging to childhood period (0-18 years), which is from neonatal period to adulthood.Children are never a miniature of adults. Childhood period has its own physiology and diseases. Diseases seen in childhood period show different characteristics in different periods. The diagnosis and treatment of these diseases should be carried out by considering the growth, physiology and psychology of the child. Among these diseases, the ones which require a surgical approach should be evaluated and conducted by pediatric surgeons who determine and apply diagnosis and treatment methods which are specific to the related topics.
