Welcome to the Zonguldak Bülent Ecevit University Faculty of Medicine family.

Medical education is about much more than acquiring knowledge and learning to recognize diseases. It is a journey that requires understanding people, thinking scientifically, questioning, taking responsibility, and respecting human life under all circumstances. As you embark on this journey, you are not only working toward becoming competent physicians but also growing into individuals who will contribute to public health, advance scientific knowledge, and uphold the values of your profession.

At our faculty, we deliver our medical education program in accordance with the current National Core Education Program and the Bologna Process, adopting a student-centered, evidence-based approach focused on problem-solving and the health needs of society. Throughout your education, from basic medical sciences to clinical practice, we emphasize the integrated development of knowledge, skills, and professional attitudes. Through horizontal and vertical integration across organ systems, practical learning activities, and elective and applied courses, we aim to provide you with a comprehensive and enriching learning environment. We also consider your opinions and feedback valuable in the continuous evaluation, development, and improvement of our educational program.

Medicine is a profession that requires lifelong learning and continuous development. Therefore, our goal is not merely to ensure that you acquire today's medical knowledge, but also to help you become future physicians who can seek new knowledge, assess scientific evidence, think critically, and develop solutions to the challenges they encounter. Alongside your professional development, strengthening your communication skills, teamwork, leadership abilities, and sense of social responsibility remains an essential part of our educational philosophy.

The national accreditation of our undergraduate medical education program is an important indicator of our commitment to educational quality and continuous improvement. However, we recognize that the true success of medical education is measured not only by academic standards but also by the professional competence of our graduates, their commitment to ethical values, and their contributions to society.

Since welcoming our first graduates in the 2005–2006 academic year, our faculty has taken great pride in educating numerous physicians and specialist physicians. Drawing on our academic expertise in basic medical sciences, internal medicine, and surgical sciences, together with our research opportunities and contributions to healthcare services, we strive to provide you with a strong educational foundation. National and international student exchange programs also offer valuable opportunities to explore different educational and healthcare systems, gain new experiences, and develop a broader perspective on the medical profession.

At the heart of medicine, there is always a human being. When caring for a patient, you must learn to see not only the disease but also the person behind it—their emotions, family, living conditions, and cultural values. Your ability to empathize, communicate effectively, take responsibility within a team, and adhere to ethical principles will be just as important as your medical knowledge and clinical skills in shaping the quality of your practice.

We expect you to remain open to learning, never hesitate to ask questions or pursue your curiosity, embrace scientific thinking, and persevere in the face of challenges throughout your education. Respect for your faculty members, colleagues, and fellow students; openness to different perspectives; sensitivity to social issues; and a strong sense of teamwork are equally indispensable elements of this journey.

Our faculty aims to provide an educational environment in which you can develop the seven fundamental roles of a physician: medical expert, health advocate, team member, counselor, manager-leader, scholar, and communicator. Your active participation, sense of responsibility, and enthusiasm for learning are as important to this process as our guidance and support. We believe that success is built on mutual trust, open communication, and a shared commitment to excellence.

Remember that being a good physician means much more than making the correct diagnosis and providing appropriate treatment. It also means earning patients' trust, understanding your professional responsibilities, and protecting human dignity under all circumstances. By combining scientific competence with humanistic values, you can make a lasting difference both in your profession and in society.
