Zonguldak Bulent Ecevit University (ZBEU) was founded in 1992 as Zonguldak Karaelmas University and its name was changed to Bulent Ecevit University in accordance with the 18th article of the Law No. 6287 published in the Official Gazette dated 11.04.2012 and numbered 28261. After the establishment of the university, the needs of the region were evaluated and the necessary initiatives were started to found a Faculty of Medicine and a Health Application and Research Center within the University, and the Faculty of Medicine was founded with the law number 3837 dated 03.07.1992.
Faculty of Medicine and Health Application and Research Center is located in the "Ibn-i Sina Campus” - which includes Faculty of Dentistry, Faculty of Health Sciences, Faculty of Pharmacy, Ahmet Erdogan Health Services Vocational Health School, Science and Technology Research and Application Center -,in the extraordinary natural beauty of the Western Black Sea, at the 8th km of the Zonguldak – Eregli highway.
In the 2000-2001 academic year, with the approval of the Higher Education Board, pre-graduation and post-graduate medical education in various departments was initiated. The Faculty of Medicine, which gave its first graduates in the 2005-2006 academic year, still stands out on a regional / national scale serving social contribution activities with its 44 departments and 15 disciplines affiliated to Basic Medical Sciences, Internal Medical Sciences and Surgical Medical Sciences. As of June 2020, 60 professors, 19 associate professors, 58 doctor lecturers, 2 specialist physicians, 223 research assistants, a total of 360 academic staff are employed. 811 "Medical Doctors" and 513 "Specialists" have been trained in the Faculty of Medicine as yet.
Our Health Application and Research Center started to serve in 2000 and is located in a building complex consisting of 5 blocks, which physically provides approximately 60.000 m2 closed area. With its approximately 1700 employees, it not only provides tertiary health services to the people of the region, but also brings a serious vitality to the economic life of the region. The Center, which had a bed capacity of 70 during the period when it was put into service, still provides service with a total of 609 beds and 14 operating rooms, including 55 intensive care units, 76 of which are 3rd step, and 474 inpatient services. Intensive care services provided with 80 beds in 8 intensive care units (Internal, Surgical, Neonatal, Pediatric Diseases, Pediatric Surgery, Chest Diseases, Cardiology, Cardiovascular Surgery) meet an important need. In our center, annually approximately 380.000 patients receive outpatient treatment and 67.000 patients receive inpatient treatment, including daily hospitalization.
An ideal path has been followed in terms of structuring since its establishment; with the improvement of physical conditions, the supply of qualified labor force and equipment has been carried out coordinately. As a result, we are proud of being equivalent to many examples of medical faculties in the field of quality-oriented education, research and service in a short time.
