The Department of Chest Diseases was established in March 2001 by the founding head of the department, Prof Dr. Meltem Tor, within the body of Bülent Ecevit University Faculty of Medicine.
Since its establishment, the mission of our clinic is to provide physicians and specialist candidates with modern clinical and interventional skills as well as modern theoretical knowledge, occupational lung diseases due to coal dust exposure due to coal mining in Zonguldak, and obstructive airway diseases due to serious air pollution, Since lung cancer and respiratory failure are more common in our region, diagnosis, treatment and follow-up of these diseases should be carried out in accordance with scientific standards.
In the 2000-2001 academic year, the medical faculty started to admit students, and as a faculty whose students did not start education in another faculty, it gave its first graduates in the 2006-2007 academic year. Our department, which received its first specialization students in 2001, undertook the founding and two-term presidency of the Western Black Sea Branch of the Turkish Thoracic Society between 2005 and 2010, and actively organized the activities of the specialty association in our region, updating the professional knowledge of many physicians working in the Western Black Sea region and helping the people of the region with respiratory diseases. contributed to its awareness.
