Immunology, which is defined as the science that originates from the Latin word Immunitas and examines the immune system, is one of the fastest developing fields of science in the world. Immunology investigates the immune system of the organism in healthy and disease status. Basically, while examining the structure, functioning and relationship of this system with other systems, it also includes the immunological basis of diseases and the main diseases of the immune system. The specific roles of immune system elements and the close relationship of immunologists with technology have enabled the use of immunological methods in the diagnosis and even treatment of diseases.

Bülent Ecevit University Faculty of Medicine, Department of Immunology was established in 2000 as the second of Turkey's three Immunology Departments. It started its academic life with a single faculty member in 2001. The Department of Immunology, which is included in Basic Medical Sciences, has been working with two faculty members since 2006.
