The department of Anesthesiology and Reanimation at Zonguldak Bulent Ecevit University Medical Faculty has been founded in year 2001 and provides all necessary general anesthesia, regional anesthesia, monitored patient care techniques and advanced (3th Level) intensive care unit facilities for save and secure surgical procedures to be done to all surgical patients from all different branches.  Assoc. Prof. Dr. Hanife Altunkaya has served as the head of the department between 2001-2004 and has been followed by Prof. Dr. Işıl Özkoçak Turan as the head of the department in years 2004-2013. Since 2013 Prof. Dr. Hilal Ayoğlu proudly continues this task. Our clinic serves with 7 academic members, 20 research assistants (residents), 30 technicians, 31 nurses, 26 staff and one secretary. At different locations throughout our hospital our academic, diagnosis and treatment services are provided for 11 different surgical disciplines in 13 operating rooms, Anesthesiology and Reanimation ICU unit with 10 beds and other ICU’s, at pain-anesthesiology clinic and in other non-OR locations as Radiology, Gastroenterology, Cardiology, Psychiatry, Radiation Oncology.  All kinds of anesthetic interventions (neuro-anesthesia, awake craniotomy, obesity surgery, neonatal procedures, cardiovascular surgeries, specific and complicated procedures as oncologic and thoracic surgeries)   are performed at our department’s operating rooms and besides that various pain treatment methods, pain-free birth applications, port catheterization, invasive procedures (central catheterization, percutaneous tracheostomy, ultrasound guided  regional block/catheterization etc.), acupuncture, non-OR anesthetics practices and treatment/follow-ups of ICU patients are done nourishingly with the most modern and recent methods.  More than 50 international and over 100 publications has been made in our clinic till recent day. In addition to that academic staff of our department has contributed in translations of the textbooks, has published books and chapters. Annually 30.000 surgical procedures from almost all branches of the surgery has been done in our departments supervision under general/regional anesthesia, and besides that nearly 1000 patients are given anesthesia (electroconvulsive treatment, oncology, angiography, endoscopy, radiology etc.) outside the operating rooms. Our department contributed to 33 residents to complete their training and became anesthesiology and reanimation specialist. Our clinic teaches 5^th year medical students, dentistry students, anesthesia technicians, nursing students and medical rotations of other branches and participates in social projects, voluntary public education organizations in Zonguldak and its neighborhood.
